Obama Wins...Texas Mixed Results

Barack Obama is our new President. We pretty much assumed it would happen, but maybe not in such a dramatic fashion early in the evening.

But we have to mention Texas. Dallas, Harris, and Travis counties all had great Democratic victories. But the rest of the state seemed to falter. Our home base in Denton County saw numbers even worse than that of 2006.

Did the "Obama effect" have the opposite effect we were looking for in Texas? It seems that way. All of our statewide candidates lost their races. The only bright spot remains in the control of the State House. Democrats made gains on the evening, showing a 1 seat deficit at this time. One race is too close to call and could result in a tie in the House if Bob Romano's 25 vote loss is recounted in his favor in House District 105. On the State Senate side, Wendy Davis defeated incumbent Kim Brimer in Senate District 10, and Chris Bell is heading to a runoff in the special election of Senate District 17.

We'll have to do more analysis in the weeks to come. But when the dust settles, we will find that some blossoms are pushing through.
