CNN.com has a neat tool that shows the total dollars raised by Obama and McCain by county in every state. We decided to look at the ol' home county of Denton and expected to see a swatch of red staring back at us. But we were dead wrong!
Barack Obama has raised more money through September 20 in Denton County than has John McCain. The margin is $187,056 to $151,528. Not big numbers and not a huge margin, but it is very significant for a county in Texas that has a Republican holding every elected office, and a county that has been blamed for swinging past statewide elections in the favor of the GOP.
To be fair, the surrounding counties in DFW have raised more money for Obama. However, McCain has raised even more in those counties, and leads every single North Texas county, save for Fannin and Jack.
Take heart, fair Denton County. We may be closer to turning blue in one week than we think!
