The Texas State Board Of Education approved new English and reading standards on a 9-6 vote this past week. That doesn't sound too bad, right? Well, it wouldn't be if they did not completely ignore a panel of educators who recommended new standards to the Board.
A new document was "slipped under the hotel door" of many members, less than an hour before it was scheduled to be voted on. It may as well have been etched on a napkin during breakfast that morning! Hell, maybe it was. The document completely ignored recommendations by a panel teachers and experts that the SBOE had even appointed itself. The new document was not allowed to be initially reviewed, and only a quick run through was allowed by SBOE chairman Don McLeroy during the hearing.
Is this how we are to educate Texas children over the next decade? Quick overviews of documents prepared by private companies only a day earlier? This is another example of radical agendas put forth by social fascists. David Bradley, Gail Lowe, and Barbara Cargill are the culprits in this case once again.
Apparently up next is the science curriculum. We can only imagine the doctrine that these wing nuts will try to push through without debate or review. Texas parents should be outraged and subsequently remove this people from the SBOE in November.
