Our cash strapped toll happy TxDOT suddenly has money to throw around. It was announced a couple weeks ago that the agency is "donating" $20 million to the Woodall Rogers Park Foundation, a "public-private partnership" set up to build a park in downtown Dallas on top of what is now Woodall Rogers Freeway.
We're all for parks. And this proposed park covers up one of the many eyesores in downtown Dallas, essentially making the freeway a tunnel. But we all know that as a PPP, the private interests who are helping fund this project want some profit in return. Hence, why this project includes restaraunts and other amenities. What will TxDOT get out of it? Probably nothing since their part of the bill is a gift.
Why are we gifting $20 million of our tax dollars to a park in Dallas when we have roads that need building and roads that need maintaining?
