Common sense ideas are some of the best ways to save money and save the earth. Remembering that Earth Day is Every Day and not just April 22, will help you.
The Chicago Tribune has listed one of the most extensive list of tips to help the earth and help your wallet at the same time! 46 ways in fact.
One of the ways we believe needs to be reintroduced to Americans is the idea of driving slower. Speeds were set at 55mph maximum for a reason. In 1974, after our last oil crisis, it was finally determined that driving no more than 55 mph was more fuel efficient, and a federal law was enacted. Then in the 1980s we forgot this gas saving option, and the law was revised to allow speeds up to 65 mph. Finally the law was scrapped entirely in 1995, and speed limits were left up to state law. Many states allow anywhere from 65mph to 70mph, and some states have no limit whatsoever.
Why is driving fast bad when it gets you to your destination faster? Examples: Driving 75mph instead of 65mph cuts your fuel economy by 15%. And when gas is $3.35+, that matters to your wallet.
